Red Cross Offers Food for RI Residents

Help for 100,000+ homes still without electricity.

The American Red Cross is offering bottled water, snacks and emergency prepackaged meals to residents today who are unable to get food following Tropical Storm Irene. A shelter also remains open in Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, 2401 West Shore Road, and Rhode Island residents are encouraged to go there if they need a place to sleep or shower. They can also get snacks and meals, or recharge their phones and laptops. They do not have to stay overnight.

More than 100,000 homes remained without electricity on Tuesday. Families who need food can go to the following locations:

  • , 40 Reservoir Road, Coventry
  • State Police Barracks, Route 44, 100 Putnam Pike, Chepachet
  • Charlestown Police Department, 4901 Old Post Road, Charlestown

The emergency items will be handed out from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday and 12-4 p.m. on Wednesday.
