Residents On Johnson's Pond Must Move Quickly to Remove Watercraft

The Quidnick Reservoir Authority continues to lower water level, despite requests from town officials.

The Coventry Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has released the following information:

The Coventry EOC is requesting the Johnson's Pond Civic Association's assistance in notifying residents on Johnson's Pond that they will have a limited amount of time to remove their personal watercraft. The water level has been lowered over the last day to accommodate the expected heavy rains from Hurricane Irene.

The water level has already dropped considerably and will continue to drop a total of two feet very quickly, which may cause watercraft to rest on the bottom of the pond and make it impossible to remove. Therefore all residents are being advised to remove personal watercraft as soon as possible.

The water level in Johnson's Pond is controlled by the Quidnick Reservoir Authority and the Coventry EOC has been unable to delay the lowering of the water level to provide residents additional time to remove their watercraft.

For further information regarding the lowering of the pond, please contact Mr. Joel Westerman at 884-2972 (home) or 203-9101 (cell).
