RIDOT: Laurel Ave. Bridge Construction Update July-August

From July 29 – August 11, 2012 the following operations will be in effect:

 

Week of July 29

Daytime: Installation of the micro‐piles continues on the North abutment. Finish installing the South abutment gabion wall, grade and place rip rap on southeast slopes. Continue grading and construction of the south side road approaches. The painting and metalizing of the structural steel beams is on‐going and fabrication and delivery of some precast back walls and precast components continues.

Evening: No evening work is anticipated for this project.

Week of August 6

Daytime: Excavation, backfill and grade for the North abutment. Begin to form the north pile cap and beam seats and install the reinforcing steel. Continue backfilling, grading and construction of the south side road approaches and slopes. The painting and metalizing of the structural steel beams is on‐going and fabrication and delivery of some precast back walls and precast components continues.

  • Shop drawing development and submittals, along with material procurements, to continue.

Evening: No evening work is anticipated for this project.

Looking Ahead (August)

Design: Prepare and submit drawings for the structural steel elements, steel erection, bridge deck elements, pre‐cast elements and form work.

Construction: Complete construction of the north pile cap, abutment, bearing pad, backwall and grade roadway approach. Schedule steel beam installation for late August. Begin utility installation on the bridge and in the road approaches.

During construction, motorists and neighbors on Washington Street (Route 117), Pilgrim Avenue, and Laurel Avenue, and on the Coventry Greenway, should expect to see activity at any time. Noise may be experienced at times. Work on the bridge will be confined to the sections of Laurel Avenue already closed to through traffic.
