School Construction Bond Refinancing; Sewer Funding Authorization Approved at Council Meeting

Licenses, business applications and equipment rental agreements were among the other topics discussed at Monday's meeting.

On Monday night, the Town Council authorized the town to take the necessary measures to secure $550,912 in funding through the Interceptor Bond Fund Grants and/or Rhode Island Clean Water Finance Agency. The funds would be used as Coventry's matching share of a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration in the amount of $2,170,811 for the extension of a sanitary sewer from the Community Center to Industrial Drive.

Council members are considering several options for securing the money, including working with a local company that is looking to do a significant build-out in town.

"We have to do our damndest to come up with the $500,000," said Councilman Kerry McGee. "We need to be creative in getting that money because it is going to be a major boost to our economy."
