School District Wishes to Identify Military Families

School administrators want to collect information to help those serving the country.

Coventry students who have parents serving in the armed forces may soon receive aid, thanks to a program in the school department.

An information request was recently sent from the Coventry Superintendent Michael Convery to families of all students asking military families to indentify themselves.

"Recently Coventry participated in an awareness training called Military Child. We had representatives from every level…and the largest group in the state," Convery said. "As you may know Coventry has a very large number of families in various branches of the service. The largest is the National Guard. We are in the process of identifying all families with current active service members in the family."

THERE ARE SERVICES THE MILTARY CAN PROVIDE TO SCHOOLS TO HELP THESE FAMILIES…

Kim Sturdahl, from the , is organizing the effort for the District. Her husband and oldest son are active military.

Coventry Public Schools are in the process of collecting data on military families. The data will enable the district to organize a support network for military families during deployed and non-deployed times. Students who have parents, step parents, siblings, step siblings, grandparents or step grandparents active in the militarycan  fill out the attached (PDF) form and return it to your school principal.

This includes but it not limited to National Guards, United States Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy or Reserve.
