Senator Reed Visits Laurel Avenue Bridge
Reed dropped by to view the progress of the bridge reconstruction.
After at the Coventry Senior Center on Thursday, Senator Jack Reed made stops at the Coventry Town Hall, Boston Scientific and the Laurel Ave. Bridge construction site.
At Laurel Ave., Reed was joined by Town Council President Gary Cote, Town Manager Tom Hoover, members of Concordia Fibers whose mill facility is across from the bridge, and representatives from the Cardi Corporation to view the progress of the bridge reconstruction. The bridge was badly damaged by the March 2010 flooding and has since been a subject of great derision to many residents as its closure cuts off the passage between the Anthony and Oak Haven areas of town.

Reed explained that his office has been continuously working to provide federal resources to rebuild the bridge and stabalize the waterway, in order to not only open the road again, but also to keep nearby businesses operational.
The bridge is expected to be completed in December of this year.
