Enrollment is starting soon for many summer camps. Here's a selection of summer camps in Rhode Island.

 

With the choice and variety of summer camps available in New England in 2013, boredom won't be an option.

Organizations, from the YMCA to your local parks and recreation department, offer dozens of camp choices for recreation, science, reading, sports, music and more. Whether you're looking for an all-around experience or a more focused camp, this list can easily launch your camp search with examples in your town and surrounding areas.

Location: Exeter, RI
Type: Christian camping experience
Dates: 1 week sessions, June 23-August 16
Details: There are over 300 acres of field, wetland, and forest to explore and enjoy at Canonicus. They offer a variety of traditional camp activities which are wholesome and engaging as well as daily Bible study designed to encourage campers' faith.

Alton Jones

Location: University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI
Type: Earth, teen-X, specialty and expedition
Dates: 1 week sessions, June 30-August 16
Details: Explore our natural environment and trying multisport outdoor skills. All programs include swimming and traditional camp activities.

Camp Jori

Location: Cranston, RI
Type: Only Jewish Camp in Rhode Island
Dates: 2 & 4 week sessions, June-August
Details: Camp JORI, the only Jewish overnight camp in Rhode Island, has been providing memorable summer experiences for children since 1937.

Camp Hoffman

Location: West Kingston, RI
Type: Girl Scout (non girl scouts may attend)
Dates: June 30-August 3
Details: Girls come for 3 days or 1 week (or more) overnight programs such as sailing, drama, challenge course, horseback riding, adventure, hiking, science experiments, nature exploration, archery, swimming, and more!

Coventry Parks & Recreation

Location: Coventry, RI
Type: Traditional
Dates: 7-week session, July 1 - August 16
Details: Parks & Rec offers a variety activities daily designed to focus on different age groups. The summer camp includes a mix of activities in Coventry or short away trips during the day. Registration will be held June 8 from 8-11 a.m.

Adventure Zone

Type: Non-profit mobile adventure
Dates: 1 week sessions, June 24-August 30
Details: AZ offers a variety of adventure based activities daily designed to focus exclusively in the areas of particular interest to our youngsters. Whether climbing on a ropes course, kayaking, surfing for the first time, teamwork- AZ is full of challenges.

Camp Ruggles

Type: RI's only day camp for children diagnosed with emotional and behavioral disabilities
Dates: 6-week program
Details: This program is designed specifically for children with significant difficulties in areas who cannot succeed in a regular camp environment. All aspects of the camp are designed to meet the individual needs of this special population.
