Town Council Adopts 2012/2013 Budget Calendar
The calendar is for submission of the 2012/2013 fiscal year budget in accordance with the financial provisions of the Town Charter and State Law.
Update (Feb. 27): The April 19 meeting has been moved to Apr. 12 and the Apr. 24 meeting has been moved to Apr. 25.

Monday, Jan. 9: Start of budget process with distribution of forms for both Capital and Operating budgets.

Monday, Jan. 9: Pre-budget meeting between Town Council and School Committee to discuss anticipated expenditures, enrollment, staff and facility needs for ensuing fiscal year.
Friday, Feb. 3: Capital Budget and Operating Budget requests for all departments submitted to Town Manager and Director of Planning and Development. (Town Charter 8.11)

February/March: Town Manager reviews budget requests with Departments.
Wednesday, Mar. 7: School Department Summary Budget to be submitted to Town Manager.
Wednesday, Mar. 14: School Department Detail Budget to be submitted to Town Manager.
Monday, Mar. 26: Town Manager submits Capital Improvement Program, 5-year Capital Improvement Program, Annual Capital Budget with recommendations to the Town Council. (Town Charter 8.13)
Town Council Work Session to discuss budget with Town Manager and Director of Planning and Development.
Town Manager presents Budget Message and recommended Operating Budget to Town Council.
Town Council Work Session with Town Manager and department heads to review Proposed Municipal Budget. (Additional meeting may be scheduled.)
Tuesday, Mar. 27: Advertisement of April 19 and April 24 Public Hearings on Capital Budget and Operating Budget. (Town Charter 8.16)
Monday, Apr. 2: Town Council Work Session with School Committee to review School Department requests.
Thursday, Apr. 5: Town Council Work Session on budget.
Thursday, Apr. 12: Public Hearing on Capital Budget and Municipal Budget. (Town Charter 8.16)
Wednesday, Apr. 25: Public Hearing on School Department Budget. (Town Charter 8.16)
Monday, May 14: Town Council Meeting to amend and adopt Capital Budget and Operating Budget for 2012-2013 fiscal year.
Friday, Jun. 1: Advertisement of Budget Summary and Property Tax Disclosure Statement. (RI General Law 44-34-6 & 7)
