2 Homes Catch Fire In Cranston, 3 Families Displaced
A cat and a dog needed to be rescued from one of the homes, while the other fire displaced five adults and five children.
CRANSTON, RI — Sunday saw the Cranston fire department have to respond to fires at two homes, and one of them left three families displaced, according to fire officials.
The most damaging of the fires started in a multi-family home on Farmington Avenue around 11 p.m. Fire Chief James Warren said the fire caused water damage throughout the home and smoke damage in the attic. It took crews about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, Warren said.
No injuries were reported, Warren said five adults and five children were displaced from their homes. The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced families.

Although the fire displaced the residents, Warren said their displacement may be temporary.
"It needs some repairs, but it could be liveable," Warren said.

Warren said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The other fire happened earlier in the day at a two-family home on Allen Avenue. Fire crews were called to the home around 11:30 a.m. for a report of a basement fire, Warren said.
Warren said firefighters rescued a dog and a cat from the house.
No injuries were reported, and the home remains liveable, Warren said. The damage was contained to the basement, and some wall on the first floor, which had to be torn down to check if flames had spread further up the building.
Warren said the fire took 30 minutes to extinguish. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
