$5M Renewable Energy Bond Proposed In Cranston
The City Council's Finance Committee will consider the proposal on May 4.
CRANSTON, RI — A Cranston City Council member is calling for the city to make more investments in renewable energy. Steve Stycos submitted a $5 million bond proposal to fund an investment in renewable energy, as well as energy conservation measures.
"Cranston must act to reduce carbon emissions that are contributing to climate change," Stycos said in a statement.
The council's finance committee will consider the proposal on May 4. If approved, Cranston voters will vote on the issue in November.

If the bond is passed by voters, the money will be used to fund several projects for energy conservation and renewable energy systems in the city, Stycos said.
"Cranston has more than three dozen schools, libraries, fire stations, and public buildings, which should be better insulated and equipped with modern heating and cooling systems," Stycos continued. "In addition, bond funds could be used to place solar panels on city buildings, build electric vehicle charging stations, and install more efficient lighting."
