After One Year, Details Barbershop is as Sharp as Ever [VIDEO]

Details Barbershop on Dyer Ave. celebrates one year in business and continues to grow.

"It's all about the detail work and the sharp edges," said Manny Garcia, or Manny Fresh, owner of .

And that's what keeps the customers coming to the barbershop, which combines the best of old-school cut and shave shops of yore with the modern vibe sought after by today's stylish men.

"I was introduced to him by a friend, I tried him out and I liked him," said Justin Perry of Cranston who was getting a cut yesterday. "I've been coming here ever since โ€” about one-and-a-half years."

It's the only barbershop that has Providence College basketball players as regulars. Come in for a quick cut, or get the deluxe treatment with hot towels, a straight razor shave in a chair that reclines.

"It's something a lot of shops don't do anymore," Garcia said. "It's a dying tradition."

Garcia views his craft as an art, much in the same way he approached the graffiti arts, which he "used to do," but realized after some time that it wouldn't take him very far on its own. It does let him give the shop some street cred and the walls are adorned with some of his art, including an outside cinder block wall he painted to depict the logo and a straight razor-wielding barber at work.

What sets Details apart from other barbershops is that attention to detail, Garcia said.

"We do all the fine detail work and sharps edges and feathering," he said.

Younger men are looking for more modern cuts and not every barbershop or salon can pull the look off.

That doesn't mean won't provide the classic cut or a more traditional look. It might not be your grandfather's barbershop, but it's still a place where your grandfather can go.

"We do all kinds of haircuts, from little guys, teenagers, older guys," Garcia said. "We actually cut a huge range of people, that's why I have the barbershop the way it is: classic but with a modern feel. It's how I built my shop."

Business has been growing steadily since it opened last year, mostly through word of mouth and social media.

Garcia said he is planning to offer some type of special or promotion just in time for prom and graduation season. Check back again for more information, or give the shop a call at 401-383-8990.
