CRANSTON, RI — A Providence driver crashed into a Cranston restaurant early Wednesday morning, police said.
The driver, 24-year-old Libasse Gadiaga, was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test, according to a media release from the Cranston Police Department.
The building housing Equis Restaurant & Lounge on Dyer Avenue sustained "significant damage" but "remained structurally sound," the release said.
Gadiaga crashed into the restaurant shortly after 4 a.m., according to the release.
He was heading north on Dyer "when he attempted to make a left turn onto Farmington Avenue," per the release.
"Investigators determined that Gadiaga negotiated an
excessively wide turn, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into the front of the Equis Lounge, resulting in significant damage to the building," the release said.
"Officers observed Gadiaga displaying obvious signs of impairment," according to the release. "He was taken into
custody without incident and later refused to submit to a chemical breath test."
