Providence Man Charged With Cranston Drive-By Shooting

The Providence man was captured by the Violent Fugitive Task Force, police said.

CRANSTON, RI — A Providence man was arrested in connection with last week's drive-by shooting in Cranston.

Amsua Bleh, 25, was arrested on a warrant Thursday by the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force during a traffic stop on Interstate 195 in East Providence, the Cranston police said in a media release.

Bleh was charged with drive-by shooting, discharge of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, felony assault with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy and weapons law violations, the release said.

Two vehicles were hit in the 8:30 p.m. Tuesday drive-by gun attack, police said.

Shots were fired from a vehicle near the corner of Park Avenue and Potter Street, according to the release.

Police located the vehicle of the target of the gun attack and determined "multiple rounds had been fired into the vehicle," the release," the release said.

"Fortunately, the occupants were not injured," according to the release.

Another vehicle traveling in the area was also struck, per the release.

"The occupants of that vehicle were also unharmed," the release said.

Bleh was identified as the shooter after an "extensive investigation utilizing surveillance video, witness interviews, forensic evidence, and FLOCK automated license plate reader technology," according to the release.

"This arrest is the result of outstanding investigative work by our Detectives, patrol officers, crime scene personnel, and our law enforcement partners," Col. Michael J. Winquist, the chief of the Cranston police, said in the release.

"Their efforts allowed us to quickly identify and apprehend a dangerous individual," Winquist said. "While this is a significant development, the investigation remains active, and we continue to pursue all leads."

Bleh was ordered held on $100,000 surety bail and on a parole violation, according to the release.

"The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests or charges may follow," the release said.
