BASICS, Musicians, Ready for Sold Out Winter Concert Tonight

Patch will be at tonight's BASCIS' Music is Instrumental Winter Concert tonight at Cranston High School East. Be sure to stop by and say hello.

More than 225 music students from all parts of Cranston will be filling the Cranston High School East auditorium with music and singing tonight.

BASICS' Music is Instrumental program is a volunteer-run music program in Cranston elementary schools that was established to make up for cuts to the schools' music program in recent years.

“We started this program to support student’s in Cranston schools who otherwise wouldn’t have access to a high quality music program” said Kerri Kelleher, President of BASICS (Benefiting All Students in Cranston Schools).  “Without this program, students wouldn’t be able to experience the joy of music and Cranston’s high school music programs would suffer as a result.”

The concert will feature students in glee, band, strings and guitar. Each section will perform songs and then everyone will come together for the finale performance of "Sweet Caroline."

One of the key moments of the night will be a saxophone duet with father and daughter duo Aggee Vetiaque and Aggerlynn Vetiaque.

"Mr. Vetiaque started playing the saxophone about one month before Aggerlynn," a release stated. "She was so awe inspired by her father that she wanted to play it too. The first time she picked up the sax was at the beginning of this MII Semester 11 weeks ago.  Mr. Vetiaque’s wife, Sophonie, has also started playing the clarinet.  Aggerlynn’s sister, Christiana, is also in the MII program playing the strings. This family affair and the duet Mr. Vetiaque and Aggerlynn will be playing is a stirring reminder of the need for music programs in Cranston."

The sold out show will benefit BASICS and provide continued financial support for the music program.
