Boys Hockey: Thunderbolts Win in Dominating Fashion

Cranston East defeats West Warwick/Exeter West Greenwich 6-1.

The Thunderbolts matched up against West Warwick/Exeter West Greenwich on Saturday night at Cranston Ice Rink. Cranston East controlled the game from start to finish and cruised to a 6-1 victory.

In the first period, the Bolts controlled the pace of the game and dominated possession. Despite several golden opportunities to light the lamp, the game remained scoreless through one period.

The Bolts caught momentum midway through the second period. Senior Eric Fay scored a power play goal with a slap shot from the blue line, giving East a 1-0 lead with seven minutes left in the period.

Thunderbolts senior Christian Lynch hustled for the loose puck in front of the net and poked in the rebound, upping the lead to 2-0 two minutes later.

Cranston East ended the second period with a spectacular play. Senior Kyle Hennessey passed the puck from behind the net and Fay blasted the shot for the goal as the horn sounded to signify the end of the period. The Bolts took a commanding 3-0 lead into the third period.

“I felt we dominated the game from start to finish,” P.J. Bessette, East’s head coach, said.

In the final period, West Warwick/Exeter West Greenwich freshman Anthony Ventura prevented a shutout, by providing his team’s only goal of the game. East senior captain Bob Kuczek scored two goals in the final period and Cranston East won the game 6-1.

“Bobby had a good game, one of his best games of the year,” Bessette said, “We were moving the puck well, skating hard and playing the body well.”
