Boys Soccer: East Still Searching for First Win

Although the Thunderbolts' play greatly improved in the second half, too few scoring chances spelled a 3-0 loss to Moses Brown.

Moses Brown dictated play in the first half, netting three goals and possessing the ball for the majority of the half, coasting to a 3-0 victory over the Thunderbolts on Thursday.

Julio Barroso started off the scoring for the Quakers in the 15th minute. Barroso was able to split two defenders and find the back of the net unassisted.

Moses Brown hit the crossbar twice shortly after the goal by Barroso, and were finally able to add on to their lead in the 25th minute, as Daniel Harrington found Nick Frey to give the Quakers a 2-0 lead.

Frey found the net again moments later, as Cranston East Goalkeeper Zachary Loeum came out to challenge and allowed Frey to get behind him.

Moses Brown Captain Christopher Poggi had several quality shots before the half came to a close, but couldn't connect and the game was 3-0 at half.

Cranston East made some adjustments at halftime and were able limit the scoring opportunities for the Quakers in the second half. Their defense improved greatly but the Thunderbolts struggled to create scoring chances. No goals were scored in the second half, allowing the Quakers to take the 3-0 victory.

Moses Brown moves to 6-3 on the season and next week will face off against Mount St. Charles — a team with an identical record.

Cranston East falls to 0-9 on the season with the loss, but Coach Victor Raposo was happy with the way his team responded in the second half.

"The second half was obviously much better, and there was just more communication. I think with our new formation and more communication we can get some positive results. The first game that we played against them [Moses Brown], we lost 5-0, and today we lost 3-0. And two goals less is a huge step," Raposo said.

Despite the rough season, Raposo and his team seem have held their heads up high and keep bringing energy ant enthusiasm to their games.  They appear to be a team looking to improve in each game.

Cranston East will look to make their first notch in the win column on Monday in a matchup against Mt. Hope.
