CATC Student Wins Paul Crowley Memorial Scholarship
Daisy Lam, a graduate of the Cranston Area Career and Technical Center, was recently presented with a Rep. Paul Crowley Memorial Scholarship. She plans on attending Johnson and Wales University in the fall.
Daisy Lam, a graduate of the , was recently presented with a $500 scholarship from the Representative Paul Crowley Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship will be matched by Johnson and Wales University, where Lam plans to attend next fall, bringing the total to $1,000.
Also receiving a scholarship was Shane Marczak of Chariho Regional High School.

"Shane and Daisy are most deserving of the Representative Paul Crowley Memorial Scholarship, and I congratulate them on all their hard work and dedication to their studies,” said Dale Venturini, President & CEO of the RI Hospitality Association and the RI Hospitality Education Foundation. “We hope the scholarship will help lessen the burden of affording college, allowing them to concentrate on getting a quality education.”
Rep. Crowley of Newport was a tireless advocate for education. A longtime figure in the State House, Crowley left an impact on his colleagues, constituents and the state's code of laws. During his 27 years in the General Assembly, he was the go-to guy for all things education related.

Also a restauranteur in Newport, Crowley died in 2007 after a battle with melanoma. At just 57, his passing came too soon and was a major loss for the state, his friends and family.
His legacy lives on with the scholarship, which is awarded annually to "deserving high school seniors who seek a career in the foodservice, lodging or tourism industries," according to a release.
Lam will be studying Baking and Pastry Arts at JWU.
