Coronavirus In Rhode Island: Number Of Cases By County

Providence County has the most confirmed or presumed positive cases, at 23.

The Rhode Island Department of Health released a breakdown of cases of the new coronavirus in the state, by county. The department has not announced which town each patient is from for privacy reason's, Director of Health Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott said.

Providence County by far has the highest number of conformed or presumptive positive cases, with just under two dozen. Each of the state's remaining four counties have less than 10 cases each. The numbers listed below are current as of Thursday evening, per the Rhode Island Department of Health.

  • Bristol County: Fewer than 5
  • Kent County: Fewer than 5
  • Newport County: 6
  • Providence County: 23
  • Washington County: 7

So far, there have been 654 negative COVID 19 tests in Rhode Island, while the results of an additional 140 tests are pending. Approximately 2,500 people are currently under self-quarantine.

On Thursday, Governor Gina Raimondo said she will not give a shelter-in-place order in Rhode Island unless it is absolutely necessary, saying it would be "truly crushing to our economy."

To help avoid the need for drastic action, the governor called for all Rhode Island residents to continue to follow recommendations from the health department, especially staying home as much as possible and avoiding gatherings of 25 people or more. When out in public, practice proper cough and sneeze etiquette and try to stay six feet away from others.
