Coronavirus: These RI Nursing Homes Have The Most Cases, Deaths
The Rhode Island Department of Health released a list of long-term care and nursing facilities with two or more cases.
New data from the Rhode Island Department of Health shows which nursing homes and congregate care facilities have the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the state. East Providence's Orchard View Manor has the highest cluster of cases to date, as well as the most deaths.
Throughout the coronavirus crisis in Rhode Island, nursing homes and other long-term congregate care facilities have remained in the spotlight as the greatest areas of concern. These facilities house some of the state's "most physically and medically fragile" people, said Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, the director of the Rhode Island Department of Health.
Since the beginning of the outbreak, nursing homes have been taking steps to keep staff and residents safe. When Gov. Gina Raimondo declared a state of emergency in Rhode Island on March 9, she banned anyone under 18 or who was sick from visiting nursing homes. Just four days later, that order was extended to bar all visitors, which is still in place.

"There will be absolutely no visitation in the state of Rhode Island," Raimondo said at the time. "I know it's hard, but you are forbidden to visit nursing homes. Period."
The department is taking an aggressive approach to identify cases and prevent the spread of infection within facilities. Both residents and employees are frequently checked for symptoms, and there is "a low threshold for concern" in residents, Alexander-Scott said, because symptoms can sometimes present differently in older patients.

The department is also rolling out cyclical testing in these facilities to get a "snapshot" of case data over time, as well as "strike teams" to address issues and offer support where needed.
The data, made available on the department's coronavirus website, will be updated on a weekly basis. The information below is current as of Thursday evening and includes facilities with at least two cases of COVID-19.
