Court Details Events Leading To Cranston Teen's Murder Charge

Samantah Rastella was also arrested on charges of trying to conceal the murder. She described the crime to the jury and pleaded not guilty.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The ex girlfriend of the Cranston teen on trial for murdering his mother's boyfriend, told the the jury Wednesday that Xavier Vidot, 18 told his friends the day after that he committed the crime.

Vidot is facing murder charges after police said in July 2017 he killed Valdez Loiseau, 24 after hearing gunshots and seeing him hit his mother. Vidot's mother, Melonie Perez, 36 is also being charged with compounding a felony, failure to report a death; and misprision of a felony. Samantah Rastella, 20, of Cranston also was arrested on charges of trying to conceal the crime.

“He looked at me and said ‘Babe, I’ve to tell you something. Don’t freak out," the Providence Journal reported Rastella telling the jury she remembered Vidot saying to her and another friend.

Vidot and Perez both pleaded not guilty. They argue that Loiseau was beating Perez and that the shooting happened during a struggle at the house Vidot, Loiseau and Perez shared.

Rastella told the jury about how Vidot described the killing. She said Vidot told her Loiseau continued reaching for a gun after shooting Loiseau. After the first gun jammed, Rastella said she was told Vidot shot Loiseau again with a different gun.

Vidot’s lawyer, John Cicilline is expected to resume cross examination of Rastella Thursday before Superior Court Judge Robert D. Krause.
