Cranston Man, 89, Drowns In Backyard Swimming Pool

CRANSTON, RI — A Cranston man drowned in a backyard swimming pool over the weekend, according to police.

Ernest Saraiva, 89, was found face down in the water at the Linden Avenue house just before 5:30 p.m. in Saturday. Emergency responders pulled the man from the pool and performed CPR. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 6 p.m.

"The investigation continues into this tragic accident and there are no immediate signs of foul play at this time," Cranston police said. "We express our condolences during this difficult time to the Saraiva family."
