Cranston Mayor Battling Infection
Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung has been battling an arm and blood infection since Tuesday.

Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung is being treated for a serious arm and blood infection that began earlier this week in the midst of the major snowstorm.
The mayor on Thursday morning said he’s doing OK and is receiving IV antibiotics after getting treatment on Wednesday when his arm had become swollen.
“I’m doing alright,” Fung said. “I’m doing a lot better today and we’re going to let it run its course.”

Fung said the infection apparently began on Tuesday as he was out dealing with storm-related city operations.
On Tuesday evening, Fung said he felt irritation and pain in his right arm and didn’t think much of it at first. But when he got home and took a look, “my arm was swollen like crazy,” he said.

Fung said he’s not sure what caused the infection and speculated that it might be related to chemicals and materials used by the city for treating streets during the storm.
