Cranston's Farrell Propels Rocky Hill to 3-2 Win

Senior co-captain Zeke Farrell of Cranston scored two goals in a 3-2 win over Brimmer and May on Wednesday.

The Rocky Hill School boys’ varsity soccer team hosted Brimmer and May from Chestnut Hill, Mass., in a New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class D tournament quarterfinal match Wednesday afternoon. 

Less than 20 minutes into the match, senior co-captain Zeke Farrell of Cranston scored his 15th goal of the season. That score held until halftime as Rocky Hill dominated the majority of play. 

Midway through the second half, however, two quick goals by the visiting team caught the Rocky Hill defense off guard.

With memories of last year’s home quarterfinal loss against Bancroft in mind, several veterans (including the coaches) asked if history really would rear its ugly head. Sophomore Kamusu Zean of Providence, in the 84thh minute of play, tied the game to force overtime. 

Less than five minutes into the first “Golden Goal” overtime period, Farrell scored another goal to give Rocky Hill the well-earned victory by a score of 3-2.

Special recognition goes out to junior defender Robbie Petteruti of East Greenwich who was able to frustrate Brimmer and May’s best forward throughout the entire game. No. 1 seed Rocky Hill will host the New England semi-final match against No. 5 Williams Saturday at 1 p.m.
