Cranston's Marzilli Drafted by Diamondbacks

Evan Marzilli, a Cranston native attending the University of South Carolina, is the second player in two years to be drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Marzilli, a junior outfielder, was picked in the eighth round and was the no. 273 pick overall in this years 2012 MLB draft.

On the South Carolina Gamecock team, Marzilli started all 60 games this year and is hitting .288 with 12 doubles, three triples, two homers, 30 RIB and 50 runs scored.

He earned 2012 SEC All-Defensive team honors.

In High School, Marzilli helped lead his Bishop Hendricken team to the 2008 and 2009 Rhode Island State Championships. In 2008, he was ranked the top high school baseball player in the state by PG Crosschecker.

The son of Steven and Karin Marzilli of Cranston, Marzilli describes himself as a moral, straightforward guy who is willing to try anything. He shares his love of baseball with a love for playing music. As a student, he was in the band, playing clarinet and oboe.
