Swimming: Falcons Impress at Injury Fund Meet

The Cranston West Falcons put on a good showing last week at an Injury Fund contest.

Cranston West competed in the Injury Fund meet on Wednesday. This meet served as a preseason warmup for five teams. Along with West, Toll Gate, North Providence, Pilgrim and Vets were on hand for the contest.

The meet doesn't count as a regular season competition and the times and results are not closely monitored. But it serves as a way for the squads to get their feet wet and a way for the coaches to see where they might want to make some adjustments and where their teams have room to improve.

"This meet always prepares you and helps you see what you need to work on and how we are going to look for the season. It's fun and i think they did well tonight." West Coach Jaime-leigh Gaulin-Ferretti.

All the matches were relays and Cranston West was able to come away with victories in five of the ten events. The boys and girls both won their 8 mile and breaststroke events. While the girls won the backstroke.

Cranston West Boys made it to the division finals last season, but with losing 8 graduating seniors it will be a challenge to get back to the finals.

"My team is a lot smaller this year. But that doesn't mean that we can't accomplish the goals we want to accomplish," Gaulin Ferretti said.

Seniors Xavier Ferland-Haroun and Alicia Accetta will try to lead the Falcons back to the Division I finals for the second consecutive year. Their journey will start next Monday against Mt. Hope.
