The week of December 3-7 was a history making week for the Edgewood Eagles Cheerleading Association. As reported earlier, all four competitive teams won their way through Regional Competition; subsequently, sending them all to Disney World for the chance to compete in the National Pop Warner Championship. That was the first time in Rhode Island history that a Pop Warner Cheer Association had sent all four competitive levels, at the same time. However, Edgewood did not stop there.
The Association, ultimately, came back with two National Champions and two National Finalists. With that being said, this is the first time in Rhode Island history that any Pop Warner Cheer Team has brought back a National Title; let alone, two!!

On December 3rd, the Jr. Peewee team (ages 8-10) started it off capturing the first of the National Titles. Ending the week on December 7th, the Varsity team (ages 12-15) captured the second. The Varsity girls were also given a special award naming them the Best Varsity Stunting team in the Nation. In addition, the Peewee team (ages 10-12) placed 6th and the Jr. Midget team (ages 11-13) placed 4th.
Cheer Coordinator, Lori Scichilone said “I couldn’t be more proud of all the girls. The fact that they all made it to Nationals was unbelievable, let alone the success they had down there.”
"It is extremely hard to place at Nationals… it’s the best of the best down there; however, we placed at all four levels!! I credit the success to the dedicated coaching staff and cheerleaders. They worked hard and it paid off. We look forward to doing it all again next season; which starts August 2013," Scichilone said.
The Edgewood Eagles Cheerleaders would like to extend their appreciation to all their sponsors and supporters. This accomplishment would not have been possible without them.
