Flood Warning Continued for Cranston

The Pawtuxet River in Cranston is expected to go over flood stage Tuesday night, the National Weather Service said.

CRANSTON, RI—The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a flood warning for the Pawtuxet River in Cranston for Tuesday night.

"Runoff from the heavy rainfall during this morning, accompanied by showers early this evening, will push the Pawtuxet River at Cranston above flood stage tonight," the forecasters said.

"Do not allow children to play near swollen rivers, streams or culverts. Swiftly moving water can pose an imminent threat to life.

The warning is in effect from late Tuesday night until further notice.

"At 2:45 p.m. Tuesday the stage was 8.1 feet. Flood stage is 9.0 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. The river is forecast to reach Flood Stage around midnight tonight, cresting at 9.1 feet early Wednesday morning. The river is then expected to fall below Flood Stage Wednesday night. However, the river may climb back above Flood Stage during late afternoon Thursday."

Here is the potential impact.

"At 9.5 feet, parking lots and roads are flooded in low lying areas of Warwick and Cranston near the Pawtuxet River. Impacted roads include River Street, Pioneer Avenue, Bellows Street and Venturi Avenue in Warwick.
