Swimming: Cranston East Wins Four Races at Injury Fund
Injury Fund swim meet takes place at Park View Middle School.
On Thursday afternoon at five teams competedin an Injury Fund contest. In the 42nd annual Relay Carnival, Mount Saint Charles, Classical, Smithfield, Lincoln and Cranston East's boys and girls swimming teams went head to head in seven relay races.
In the half mile freestyle relay, the Cranston East girls team of Julia Lawson, Salma Flores, Danielle Perrotta, Adriana Pagano, Kaileen Field, Erica Bachand, Annie Clarkin, Kristen Bachand came away victorious. Smithfield won the boys race, with Cranston East finishing in second place.
Smithfield swept the boys and girls races in the 200 yard backstroke relay. Michaella Johnson, Katarina Gillis, Madison Saliba, Marykate McCutcheon combined for the win in the girls race and Ricky Boardman, Brady Greene, Dan Chadwick, and Ryan Cote won the race.

In the breaststroke relay, Cranston East won the girls race and Mount Saint Charles won the boys race.
The Lincoln Lions captured the win in the 200 yard boys medley relay and Smithfield won the girls race.

Smithfield's Tim Decoste, Ricky Boardman, Carlton Eaton, Ryan Cote, Madison Saliba, Amanda Laidler, Marykate McCutcheon, Jenny Scarborough comined to sweep the boys and girls races in the 200 yard butterfly relay.
The Mounties won the girls and boys race in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
The girls meet came to a close with a thrilling finish. Cranston East defeated Mount Saint Charles by less than a second winning the 400 yard medley relay. The Thunderbolts girls team won the two longest races of the meet. The Cranston East boys ended the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay.
"The girls did a really good job and competed hard," Bob Bouchard, Cranston East's head coach, said.
Bouchard feels that the team needs to improve in some key areas. "We need to work on the endurance part of the races," he added.
