Swimming: Falcons Split Meet with Huskies

Cranston West's girls team defeats Mount Hope 62-32 and Mount Hope wins the boys meet 51-43.

The Falcons and Huskies boys and girls swimming teams split meets at Park View Middle School on Monday. The Falcons won the girls meet 62-32 and the Huskies took the boys meet 51-43.

In the first race of the event, the 200 medley relay, Cranston West finished in first place in the boys and girls race, and Mount Hope came in second and third place in both races.

Mount Hope's Kiley Quinn won the 200 freestyle with West's Jen Swanson finishing in second place. The Huskies won the boys race, with Jeffrey Briggs winning it.

The Falcons' Hunter Colford and Colin Coderre won the girls and boys 200 individual medley, giving West a 14-12 lead in both the girls and boys meet after three races.

Cranston West swept the 100 butterfly, with Ali Murphy and Jake Burrows coming away with the victories.

After six races, West led in the girls meet 31-19 and the boys meet was tired at 25. The boys meet was tied at 17, 25, and 31.

In the girls 200 yard freestyle relay West took first and third place. In the boys race, Mount Hope placed first and third.

The Falcons easily won the girls meet 62-32 and the boys meet was more competitive. Mount Hope won it 51-43.

"Our expectation this year is for them to work on their personal goals," Falcons coach, Jaime Ferretti, said, "The boys meet was close and I was excited that it was even that close because of our lack of depth."

She spoke about the performance of her girls. "I am proud that they did a good job, they gave their best and it showed," she added.
