Girls and Boys Swimming: Thunderbolts Topple Townies
The Cranston East girls and boys swimming teams defeat East Providence.
On Thursday afternoon at Park View Middle School, Cranston East's boys and girls swimming teams faced off against the Townies from East Providence High School. It was the first regular season meet for both teams. The Thunderbolts began their seasons with two victories, winning the boys meet 62-31 and the girls meet 57-37.
In the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay, Cranston East boys and girls teams each finished in first and third place. East Providence claimed second in both races.
In the 200 freestyle, East's Annie Clarkin took home first place and Danielle Perrotta finished in third for the Bolts. The Thunderbolts Jake Gorelikov won the boys race with East Providence's Bryan Carmone finished in second place.

The Bolts claimed a sweep of the meet's first three races when Kaileen Field and John Lovelace took home first place in the 200 individual medley. Through three races East led 16-10 in the girls meet and 16-9 in the boys meet.
Kelly Tiernan gave the Townies their first victory by winning the 50 yard freestyle. Cranston East's Erica Banchard finished in second place. The Bolts claimed first and third in the boys race.

Hector Maya won his second race of the day in the 100 freestyle and the Bolts Austin Harris finished in second place. Cranston East led 34-16 in the boys meet through six races. Erica Bachand won the girls race, and the Bolts lead in the girls meet was 28-22.
The Townies Hayley Costa won the 500 yard freestyle, with Annie Clarkin and Julia Lawson finishing in second and third respectively. Gorelikov won the boys race.
Cranston East would coast to a 57-37 victory in the girls meet and a 62-31 win in the boys meet.
"We had a good performance for the first meet," Bob Bouchard, Cranston East's head coach, said.
"Our depth hurt them down the stretch in the girls meet," he added, "Kaileen Field was out most of last year with an injury and had two personal bests today."
