Girls Soccer: Falcons Terrific Play Throttles Titans

Cranston West defeats Toll Gate 5-0.

Cranston West's girls soccer team (3-2 on the season) traveled to the Bend Street Athletic Complex to take on Toll Gate (0-3-1) Tuesday night. The Falcons controlled the action and the pace of the game from the get-go. They played their most complete game of the season and won it handily, 5-0.

West dominated possession throughout the game and created scoring chances right from the opening whistle. Senior Alex Stanton struck a free kick at the midway point of the first half and junior Leanny Ly's header found the back of the net. The tandem would prove to be unstoppable in the game.

With only two minutes remaining in the first half, they connected again. Stanton took the corner kick and Ly buried it, increasing the lead to 2-0.

Freshman Nicole Grammas scored two minutes later, and West's lead had balooned to 4-0. Stanton would score the final goal of the night, with about twenty minutes left in the game, off of a steal by a teammate.

The Falcons possessed the ball for at least 75% of the game and controlled the action. West played a complete game and will look to build off of their momentum.

"We moved the ball really well throughout the game," Charles Pearson, Falcons coach, said.

He added, "All day at practice yesterday we worked on free kicks and corner kicks and I am proud they were able to bring it to the game."
