Girls Softball: Thunderbolt Errors Result in 10-0 Blowout
Pilgrim wins in a 10-0 blowout against a mistake-prone Cranston East.
The Cranston East Thunderbolts made 10 errors in a forgettable game that ended in a 10-0 blowout loss to the Pilgrim Patriots on Monday.
Pilgrim notched only five hits on the day, but took advantage of 10 errors by the Thunderbolts. The Patriots won the game 10-0, as it was called after the top of the 5th inning due to the ten run rule.
Patriots junior Carly Cabral pitched a gem. She only gave up five hits and notched six strikeouts over five innings, allowing no runs.

"Carly's command of the strike zone is really good," Patriots coach Will Aquilante said.
The Thunderbolts had their best chance to score in the top of the first. They had runners on second and third with only one out, but Cabral retired two batters in a row, getting out of the inning without any damage.

In a rarity, the first nine runs scored by Pilgrim were all unearned runs. Their final run in the bottom half of the fourth was the only earned run given up by East's pitching staff on the day. Theoretically, had Cranston East not made one error in the game, they would have lost 1-0.
Patriots freshman Witashnan Ellsworth drove in two runs with a single up the middle in the bottom half of the 1st inning, giving Pilgrim a 2-0 lead.
"We have had our better games when we have jumped ahead early,"Aquilante said.
Pilgrim managed two more runs in the bottom of the second, even though they failed to record a hit in the inning. The Thunderbolts made three errors in the half inning.
It was a similar story in the bottom of the third, when the Patriots scored four runs, upping the lead to 8-0, even though they only had one hit. Ultimately, they would tack on two more runs, and won the game 10-0.
