Many industries are taking the holiday the day before the holiday, since it falls on a Saturday.

CRANSTON, RI — This July 4 will be a lot different from years past, with fireworks displays and community celebrations around the state canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, the holiday falls on a Saturday, meaning many industries will be observing the day before.

Here's a look at what's open and closed on the Independence Day, and, where noted, on Friday.

  • Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion.
  • Liquor stores: Open.
  • Supermarkets: Open.
  • Convenience stores: Open.
  • Restaurants: Open at owner's discretion.
  • Banks: Closed.
  • Stock market: Closed Friday.
  • Municipal, state, federal offices: All city offices closed Friday.
  • Libraries: Closed.
  • Mail: Post offices closed Saturday, regular delivery Friday.
  • Trash Collection: Trash and recycling are on the regular schedule.
