Injury Fund Football: Cranston West holds off West Warwick, 13-0

Runnng back Bryan Stetson led the way for the Falcons as they cruised to victory.

Cranston West recorded a 13-0 victory over West Warwick in a hard-hitting Injury Fund tuneup at Cranston Stadium on Friday night. A large and enthusiastic crowd for both teams watched both squads compete and grind it out in this abbreviated 24-minute contest.

“West Warwick has improved a lot even since we scrimmaged them earlier this week, complimented Falcons head Steve Stoehr of his opponent. “But I’m not happy about our performance. We played better after our first defensive series.  But good teams (in our division) will hurt us much more if we break down as much as we did in this game.”

The Wizards lost the ball on the opening kickoff, but held the Falcons scoreless on their first possession.

The Falcons later marched down the field for an impressive 13-play, 60-yard drive capped by a Bryan Stetson 15-yard touchdown jaunt. The Falcons senior starting running back and workhorse eluded many tacklers in several gains of four or more yards. “Bryan had a good game,” noted Stoehr.

West Warwick took a chance later in the game with a pass play on fourth down from their own 23, but the long attempt was incomplete and gave the Falcons possession. Seven plays later Falcons fullback Stefano Marziale scored the final touchdown from five yards out to conclude the contest.

Junior Falcons running back Joseph Geraldi also ran well.

Falcons senior starting quarterback Matt Rousseau also connected with senior wide receiver Xavier Ferland-haroun who made a leaping over-the-shoulder catch and 30-yard reception early in the game

Ross Coffua, behind the right side of his line, barreled down the right sideline for a 31-yard jaunt, the Wizards largest gain from scrimmage.

"We are a good team," concluded Stoehr, adding that "we only ran basic plays. We will get better."
