Legion Baseball: Cranston Powers Past Providence

Gershkoff's offense explodes in a win over Providence 14-3.

On Sunday afternoon Cranston's fall legion baseball team, Gershkoff Auto Body/Auburn Post 20, matched up against Providence Post 56. Cranston's offense was explosive all game, as they handily won it 14-3.

In the bottom of the first, two walks and a single by Gershkoff's Steve Bucci loaded the bases with no outs. Joe Nicolace doubled to right center, driving in two runs. Bob D'Arezzo's sacrifice fly increased the lead to 3-0. Rich Reo's base hit plated the final run of the inning.

They broke the game open in the second, extending the lead to 10-0. Taylor Pacific and D'Arezzo each drove in two runs on base hits and Ivan Reyes notched an RBI on a single to left in the big inning.

Providence did not fold and kept fighting. In the third inning, their hard work paid off. Shingen Pappas drove in their first run with a single to left field. They scored once more and trailed 10-2 after two and a half innings.

The teams combined to score three unearned runs late in the game. Cranston led 14-3 after 7 innings of play and the game was called due to the ten run rule.
