Legion Baseball: Faria's Gem Leads Gershkoff to Victory

Cranston's fall legion team defeats East Bay/Riverside 2-0

Dominant pitching and playing solid defense are key components for a successful baseball team. One team displayed both qualities on Sunday afternoon.

Cranston's fall legion baseball team, Gershkoff Auto Body/Auburn Post 20, matched up against East Bay/Riverside Post 10 on Sunday afternoon at Cranston West. There was a lack of offense throughout, as both team's pitching staffs did a phenomenal job. Cranston manged to win the game 2-0.

Ryan Faria turned in a sensational performance on the mound for Cranston. He pitched a complete game shutout and only allowed two infield singles. Faria finished with nine strikeouts, 2 walks, and no runs allowed in his nine innings of work.

Cranston only managed six hits but were able to come up with some clutch hits to provide Faria with some run support.

Steve Bucci's RBI single in the bottom of the second brought home Faria, who had walked earler in the inning.

Gershkoff's offense would not strike again until the seventh. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, Bob D'Arezzo came up with a clutch hit, pushing the lead to 2-0. That would be the final score of the game. With the victory Cranston improves to 2-0 in league play on the season.
