Lunch is From Farm to Table at Orchard Farms
Wednesday was All Local Day at Orchard Farms Elementary School. Food vendor Sodexo provided a menu featuring entirely local-sourced food.
Apples from Pippin Orchard, milk from Rhody Fresh farms, bread from Calise and Sons Bakery. Cantanzaro sauce, Venda Ravioli.
When it comes to local food, Sodexo, the city's school lunch vendor, had it covered on Wednesday.
Cranston schools celebrated "All Local Day" by enjoying a completley locally-sourced lunch menu.

"Local, healthy, sustainable food options are so important to encourage the health of our children and to reverse the growing trends of obesity, early-onset diabetes, hypertension and other chronic health issues," said Christine Mulligan, a spokeswoman with Schartz MSL.
Cranston was one of 11 districts in the Providence metro area celerbating All Local Day. They had local greens with fresh vegetables, stone fruit, corn on the cob, chocolate chip cookes from Cumberland-based Ice Cream Machine and pasta with Catanzaro sauce.

In a release, Sodexo said "All Local Day [is] part of Sodexoโs commitment to student well-being, offers a tremendous opportunity for students to learn about the wide variety of fresh, flavorful produce available in Rhode Island and the social, economic, and environmental benefits associated with them. Sourcing locally grown products not only benefits area farmers and the local and state economy, it also benefits the environment in a number of ways."
Nicholas Kelly and Isaiah Silva sat next to each other in the cafeteria. When asked if they were enjoying their lunch, their answer was clear: "Yeah!"
Sodexo said it is continually trying to expand its seasonal and local offerings to maximize its investment in local businesses and food vendors.
