Maximum Security Inmate Charged Following ACI Stabbing

CRANSTON, RI โ€” An inmate at the Adult Correctional Institute has been charged in connection with a stabbing at the prison on Monday. Brian Audette, 50, formerly of North Providence, faces charges of felony assault.

On Monday, the maximum-security facility was placed on lockdown after a fight broke out between two inmates that ended with one being stabbed.

According to Rhode Island State Police, Audette used a knife he had made himself to stab another inmate during recreation time. He is currently serving a life sentence in the maximum security prison after pleading no contest to second-degree murder charges for the 2013 murder of Donna Pike, 57, in Woonsocket. 10 years were recently added to Audette's sentence after he assaulted another inmate in July 2017.

Audette faces the following charges. He was arraigned on Thursday in Third Division District Court. Bail was set at $10,000 and he was ordered to return to the ACI.

  • Felony assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault with intent to commit a felony
  • Weapons other than firearms, prohibited
  • Disorderly conduct

The other inmate sustained injuries to his face, neck and upper back. He was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and later taken back to the ACI.
