Park View After-School Program Delayed Because of Icy Conditions
Unsafe conditions led to a decision by school staff to delay the 10-week After School program until after February vacation.
Slippery sidewalks and dangerous conditions compelled Park View Middle School officials to delay the 10-week after-school program until after February vacation.
In a letter to parents, Joe Rotz, school principal, said the decision is for the safety of the students. The difficult weather conditions this winter has left many city streets covered in ice, he said. They're much more narrow than usual, creating unsafe conditions for students heading to and from school.
"Our buses have been doing the best they can to maneuver through these obstacles," Rotz said. "However, often buses have been running late. With a good number of our students taking advantage of the transportation home after our program, we could have students walking home from bus stops in darkness under these conditions."
