The Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education voted to renew the charter for the New England Laborers'/Cranston Public Schools Career and Construction Academy last night, the Providence Journal reported.
The vote extended the charter for three years at the recommendation of Education Commissioner Deborah A. Gist, who said the Regents should not extend it for five years due to low test scores and other issues at the school she outlined in a memo.
The vote went 3-1, with Karin Forbes, Colleen Callahan and Robert Carothers. Betsy Shimberged voted no and Chairman George D. Caruolo did not vote.
