Roger Williams Park Zoo Welcomes Baby Flamingo
It's been 22 years since a Chilean flamingo chick hatched at the Providence zoo.
PROVIDENCE, RI โ Roger Williams Park Zoo welcomed another newborn last week. The zoo announced the arrival of a Chilean flamingo chick, the first to hatch there in more than two decades.
It's been 22 years since a flamingo hatched at the zoo. Both mother and chick are doing well, the zoo said.
Although flamingos are known for their signature pink coloring and curved bills, chicks hatch with downy, white feathers and a straight bill. Chicks are cared for by both parents, who feed it "crop milk," a fluid they produce in their digestive systems.
