Schools Delayed 1 Hour on Tuesday
You have a little extra time to get the kids to school Tuesday, but concerns remain about narrow streets and sidewalks that haven't been shoveled.

As the city continues to clean up from the weekend blizzard, school officials have decided to delay the opening of school tomorrow (Tuesday) by one hour.
There will be morning kindergarten and preschool.
Parents across the city are concerned about the safety of children walking on the streets as many sidewalks aren't shoveled and roads remain narrow due to plowing.

Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung reminded residents that they are responsible for shoveling the sidewalks in front of their property and could be fined if they fail to do so.
Due to the nature of the blizzard, city officials are going to give residents some leeway and "is loath to fine anyone because this was a big storm," but the city "will [fine] anyone who is willfully ignoring their responsibility," Fung said.

"We are urging you to please take this obligation seriously, especially for those of you who are around school areas since there are many students that walk. This is a public safety issue. We do not want people, particularly our students, walking in the streets," the Mayor said.ย
