Season Wrap-up: Missed Playoffs and First Round Exits

No playoff wins on the hardwood or the ice for the city of Cranston.

Cranston East Boys Basketball finished the season with an 8-10 record in Division I, earning the 19th seed in the State Tournament. But the Thunderbolts ran into Hope High School in the first round and were eliminated, as Hope would go on to advance all the way to the Championship game, falling to Central in the Tournament Finals. The Bolts will lose seven seniors and five captains to graduation, including 6'7" starting Center Patrick Marchand, Forward Albert DeRobbio, and Point Guard Christopher Kpahn. 

Cranston West Boys Basketball won two of their last six games, but could not secure a playoff spot, finishing with a disappointing 3-15 record in Division I West. The Falcons offensive woes prevented them from winning many games, as struggled to reach fifty points on most occasions, while finishing in the middle of the pack in points allowed.

Cranston East Girls Basketball finished 9-9 in Division II and gained a fifth seed in the South Region of the State Tournament. The Lady Bolts came into the playoffs during a cold streak, losing three of their final four games of the regular season. The trend continued in the first round, as Cranston East fell 64-57 to Scituate to end their season.

Cranston West Girls Basketball rallied to win their final three games of the season, and finished with a 7-11 record and the sixth seed in the Division I tournament. But the Falcons ran into a Barrington squad with a lot of size and fell 52-36 in the first round. The Falcons will only lose two seniors,(only one starter in Caroline DeCataldo) giving West a great chance to build on this year and progress next year.

Cranston East Hockey ended the regular season at 9-7, but narrowly missed a playoff spot, finishing fifth in Division III. The Thunderbolts were in the mix for the fourth and final playoff spot, but dropped three of their last five games.

Cranston West Hockey finished eighth in Division I with a 5-11-2 record, but were one of many first round exits for the city of Cranston, falling to Barrington 2-0. The Falcons were hot out of the gate, starting the season 4-1-1. But West was no match for the quicker, more physical teams in the division and struggled down the stretch, winning one of their final thirteen games.
