SK Woman Pleads No Contest To DUI Charges For 2017 Fatal Crash

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- A South Kingstown woman pleaded nolo contendre Wednesday to DUI charges from a 2017 crash that killed a 75-year-old pedestrian.

Under the terms of her plea agreement, Leslie Morales, 30, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with seven to serve. She must also pay a $5,000 fine,will have a suspended license for at least five years following her release from prison, and must attend alcohol counseling and complete 50 hours of community service.

The crash occurred on the evening of August 7, 2017 on Narragansett Avenue East. Mary Kemp, 75, of Wakefield was struck by a vehicle and later pronounced dead at South County Hospital. According to South Kingstown Police, Morales left the scene and was discovered approximately 100 feet away, partially trapped in the vehicle with another passenger.

Morales was charged with driving under the influence, death resulting and reckless driving.
