Victim of Apparent Homicide Identified as 55-Year-Old Cranston Man

Cranston Police have identified the victim of an apparent homicide in Cranston Tuesday morning as John Fiore, 55.

Fiore, who lived alone in Apartment 4 at Terrace Apartments at 133 Farmington Ave., was found dead by members of the Cranston Fire Department who forced their way in after family members reported not hearing from him for several days.

Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael J. Winquist said that Fiore had “visible injuries to include apparent stab wounds,” leading police to classify his death as an apparent homicide, though final confirmation from the state Medical Examiner is still pending.

Meanwhile Fiore’s 2009 Chevrolet Impala is still missing from the scene and has not yet been recovered. The car, bearing Rhode Island registration No. F665, is being sought by police and anyone who has seen it is asked to not approach and call 911 immediately.

Winquist said nobody else living at the apartment complex should feel unsafe.

Police responded to the scene shortly after firefighters found the body, Winquist said. The apartment was then secured and police obtained a search warrant to go back in and process the scene.

“We are working this investigation, we’ve got several detectives working leads and we’re waiting for the [state] Medical Examiner to give us a further determination on the exact cause of death,” Winquist said.

Police detained a person of interest in the case earlier tonight after a foot chase in Johnston.

Police said they went to the man’s house in Johnston earlier on Tuesday and he ran away. He was eventually detained near a Citizen’s Bank in Providence on Killingly Street.

It is unclear if the man is considered a suspect and police revealed few details, citing the ongoing investigation.
