CRANSTON, RI — Looking for something to do with the kids during Christmas break? The Roger Williams Park Zoo is offering free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 27 in honor of National Visit the Zoo Day.

Visitors are encouraged to share the holiday spirit by bringing one nonperishable food item per person for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cardi's Furniture and Mattresses donated a truck and staff to collect food items and deliver them to the food bank. The truck will be located in the zoo's main parking lot.

"This is the fourth year we have worked with the Rhode Island Food Bank to collect food needed by so many of our neighbors," said Jeremy Goodman, the zoo's executive director. "'Community' is one of the zoo’s seven core values and we are so happy to be able to give back to our community during the holiday season."

While it may be chilly for visitors, many animals such as the red pandas, snow leopards and moon bears enjoy the cold and are more active in cooler temperatures. For visitors looking to warm up, visit the always-tropical Faces of the Rainforest building, where colorful birds, monkeys, sloths and more reside.
