What's Open & Closed On Memorial Day

Here's a roundup of businesses and services that are open and closed on the holiday.

TIVERTON, RI — Memorial Day is America's day to honor servicemen and women who have died while serving their country. For many, it's also the unofficial start of summer. But since it's a national holiday, it's important to keep in mind that schools and government offices will be closed on that day. And there's no mail delivery. RIPTA's holiday schedule will be in effect.

Here's a roundup of what's closed (and what will be open) on Monday, May 29.

Open

Most businesses will be open, but it's not a bad idea to call ahead before heading out to a restaurant or shop. Liquor stores in Rhode Island are open. (They're closed in Massachusetts, though.) Some businesses like the 99 Restaurant chain will be offering discounts to veterans or active-duty military, so if you've served, bring your military ID with you.
