MA Man Charged With DUI In East Greenwich After Hit-And-Run Crash: Cops (patch.com) — East Greenwich readers are learning more about a hit-and-run on Route 4 where a trooper reportedly saw the crash and stopped a Massachusetts driver. Police say the 37-year-old Fall River man was charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test, then processed and released with a future court date.
   

2. Upcoming Registration Deadline for November 3 General Election (newportthisweek.com) — East Greenwich voters have until this Sunday, October 4, to register if they want to participate in Rhode Island's November 3 general election, with forms accepted at the East Greenwich Police Station until 4 p.m. You can also register or request a mail ballot online, but mail ballot applications are due by 4 p.m. on October 13, giving residents several convenient options to get ready.
   

3. Six EGHS Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists (eastgreenwichnews.com) — Six East Greenwich High School seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, placing them among the top 1 percent of students nationwide and 54 honorees in Rhode Island. The students, praised by school and district leaders, now move on in competition for nearly $24 million in scholarships, requiring strong applications, test scores, and records of leadership and service.
   

4. RIDOT removes aging bridges, changes traffic patterns as replacement costs climb (turnto10.com) — Drivers in East Greenwich should be aware that RIDOT is removing a bridge over Route 4 and narrowing Route 2 from two lanes each way, while still planning a smaller replacement bridge sized for future traffic. The project is part of a statewide push to demolish aging, costly bridges and rework traffic patterns, aiming to save millions while maintaining safe, efficient travel.
