
The East Greenwich Parks & Recreation department will be holding re-registration for Spring programs on March 4, 2013. Anyone not participating in the winter session class may sign up prior to March 4, 2013 therefore allowing everyone a chance to participate at least once this season.
Re-Registration will begin by mail or hand delivery only starting on March 4, 2013. Forms may be delivered prior to March 4, 2013. All walk-in registration will be accepted based on space availability starting on March 6, 2013. All mailed registrations will be sent a computer printout to acknowledge receipt of their form. One form per child is required and one family per envelope please. Registration forms are available at the East Greenwich Parks & Recreation office, the Town Hall, on the web at www.eastgreenwichri.com, or at the Library. In town residents receive preference in the classes. Non-Residents will be placed on a waiting list.
Space is still available for some of the upcoming programs, including a trip to the Boston Flower and Garden Show, on March 13. Come shake away the winter blues as we head to Boston to see this spectacular show. This trip will depart from Frenchtown Park at 9am and will return to East Greenwich at 3pm.

The Parks and Recreation department also has a unique line-up of daily trips throughout the spring including New York City on April 24, Garden in the Woods on May 22, and Martha’s Vineyard on June 7. All trips will depart from the Frenchtown Park located behind the Parks and Recreation Office on Frenchtown Road.
Space is also available for the NEW one day Gardening Workshop: Asphalt Gardens (March 26), come learn how to prep and maintain your gardens for the upcoming planting season. At the conclusion of class participants will be able to take home a small garden bed to plant at home.

Also in March is the EG Babysitters Class, a three-day program designed to teach new sitters and refresh present sitters on techniques and qualities that make up a good sitter. This class is for ages 10 and up and will be offered on Tuesdays, March 19 & 26, from 4:00-6:00pm and one full day on Friday, March 29 from 9:00am-1:00pm. Youths will also be certified in CPR and First-Aid.
Space is also available for youth Gymnastics, for children ages 2-3 and 4-6 in session 2 (March 7-April 11) and session 3 (May 2-June 6). This is a great class for strengthening muscles and improving children’s gross motor skills. Squeaky Sneakers, for children ages 2-3 ½, where children will learn fine and gross motor skills and playing cooperatively has space available. As well as, All Sports, for children ages 3-5, class will focus on developing motor skills and social skills, and help improve children’s self-esteem. Family Music Time for children ages 1-5 has space available, activities include singing, chants, rhymes listening and movement games to name a few. Registrations are also being accepted for Kids’ Cooking, starting April 2 through May 28 for children ages 4-6. Children will learn how to prepare meals from lunch to dinner to dessert! ENGINEERING FUNdamentals with Lego class has space available starting April 2 through May 28. For children in grades 3-5 to come create play and learn, taking on real life engineering challenges. Don’t wait to sign up for Messy Crafts as the first session filled up quickly! This class is for children aged 3-5, starting April 3 and running though to May 29. Children will spend the afternoon creating art projects.
Starting April 5 is the new Stroller Fit class, come get fit and have fun while you stroll with your baby/toddler. This class will meet at the East Greenwich High School Fields’ Road, space is limited, sign up early!
Parks and Recreation will also be offering a First Aid class Wednesday, March 13 in the EG Police Community Room. This class is offered to those aged 16+. All participants upon completion of the course will be American Heart Association First Aid certified. The First aid class is great for parents, coaches, teachers, the elderly and caregivers.
The Parks and Recreation department is offering many outdoor activities including The Ramblers and Mountaineers hiking groups, dates vary for each group and will start March 21 and run through May 30. Golf for Beginners, has space available and will be held at the East Greenwich Golf Course and will run from May 7 through May 28. These classes will introduce beginner golfers to proper form and technique as well as general knowledge essential to playing golf. Youth Tennis Lessons for ages 5+, and Adult and Senior Tennis Lessons are available for beginners, intermediate and advanced skill-sets. Participants will learn coordination, ball control, movement and footwork, as well as hitting forehand and backhand, serving and volleying from certified USTA instructors. Â
Starting April 1 is the Parks and Recreation line up of exercise classes including Body Conditioning, Stretch and Relaxation, Sculpting with Weights. Sign up for more than one class during session 2 and receive a discount! All classes are held at the Swift Community Center Gymnasium. Zumba and Pilates will also be staring April 1, make sure to sign up early to ensure your space. Discounted rates are available for those who sign up for more than one class in the second session. Starting March 12 through May 2 is Yoga Fitness, Yoga can improve flexibility, muscle tone, mental focus, and overall health. All exercise class instructors are certified in the area they are teaching.
Session 2, Adult Pick-Up Soccer, for ages 25+ will be starting April 22 on the EGHS Turf Field, and Adult Men’s 35+ Pick-Up Basketball, Monday Nights, will be starting April 1 in the EGHS Gym. Pick-up programs generally fill up quickly. Be sure to get a registration form in soon to ensure your spot in the program.
