East Greenwich Man Helping Dad Buy Dog On Facebook Marketplace Scammed Out of $140: Cops
The father wanted to buy a dog through the Facebook page "Small Breed Dogs Only," police said.
EAST GREENWICH, RI — An East Greenwich man trying to help his father buy a dog through Facebook Marketplace was scammed out of $140, police said.
The 20-year-old man contacted police Friday afternoon and told them he attempted to purchase a dog through Facebook Marketplace for his father, who had shown him a Facebook page titled "Small Breed Dogs Only," an East Greenwich Police Department report said.

The supposed dog sellers requested and received $140 through Apple Pay but never provided a dog, small breed or otherwise, and stopped responding to messages, according to the report.
An officer called the number provided by the supposed dog seller and a man answered, the report said.

"I advised the male I was interested in buying a dog where the male, with a low and mumbled tone stated "Ah okay okay, text me, it's hard t o hear you," the officer said in the report.
The report was to be forwarded to the Detective's Division, according to police.
